ADSIn saying this, Umno supreme council member Shamsul Anuar Nasarah urges voters to give Azmawi a chance to serve them.
“Our candidate is very capable and Azmawi can fulfil his responsibilities in representing the aspirations of Nenggiri and Gua Musang youth.
“And I hope he will be given the mandate not only to champion the needs of Nenggiri folk but the whole of Kelantan,” Shamsul says after attending a programme with People's Volunteer Corps officers at Dewan Lembaga Kemajuan Kelantan Selatan in Gua Musang.
DAP’s absence a BN strategy
1.46pm: Gua Musang - Umno supreme council member Shamsul Anuar Nasarah says DAP’s absence from the campaign in Nenggiri is a BN strategy.
He also dismisses accusations by Bersatu vice-president Mohd Radzi Jidin that the move was akin to “hiding one’s matrimony”, referring to DAP and BN’s ties as parties of the federal coalition government.
Umno supreme council member Shamsul Anuar Nasarah“We have our own strategy… just like their (opposition) strategy in calling it ‘hiding one’s matrimony’.
“What is important is that we approach voters with care and find out about their aspirations,” he says after attending a programme with People's Volunteer Corps officers at Dewan Lembaga Kemajuan Kelantan Selatan in Gua Musang.
Elected rep must fight forest destruction: NGO
9.20am: Environmental NGO Persatuan Aktivis Sahabat Alam (Kuasa) wants the winning candidate to fight forest destruction.
If the issue is not a priority, more forest land will be destroyed, affecting the lives of the people, especially the Orang Asli, its chairperson Hafizudin Nasarudin says.
Kuasa chairperson Hafizudin Nasarudin“The state government approved land clearing every year and within three years, 48 projects were approved, involving an area of 13,000ha.
“If it is left alone, more land clearing will be done and residents will face human-wildlife conflict due to the shrinking of animal habitat,” he tells Berita Harian.
Previously, Kelantan opposition leader Syahbuddin Hashim claimed that the state government had reportedly approved 54 forest exploration projects involving an area of over 13,000ha since 2022 in Nenggiri.
‘I fear history repeating itself’
8.30am: Bersatu vice-president Mohd Radzi Md Jidin describes the process of selecting the Perikatan Nasional candidate as “very difficult” as he fears history repeating itself.
PN candidate for the Nenggiri by-election Mohd Rizwadi Ismail“This (the candidate selection) must be done most carefully because we have a bad history and the chosen candidate must be accepted by all the people in Nenggiri.
“I, as the chairperson of the Bersatu candidate selection committee, am responsible for picking candidates,” Berita Harian quotes him as saying.
There were many candidates who fit the criteria but they were from PAS, while the Nenggiri seat belongs to Bersatu, he says.
The Putrajaya MP explains that this resulted in his party requesting for the PN candidate to be transferred from PAS to Bersatu. - Mkini
