Nasi Lemak Lengkap Rasa Yalo Yalo Yumm
Nasi Lemak Lengkap Rasa @ Yalo Yalo Yumm | When I was younger, I had this understanding that Nasi Lemak is exclusively to be eaten during breakfast.
After some time, Nasi Lemak is no longer exclusive for breakfast time only, it can be enjoyed throughout the day. And as time passes on, the taste changes - so does its taste and condiments. Some even put cheese on it (WHY????).
Not that it is my mission in life, but I love trying out nasi lemak whenever I travel to different places in our beloved Malaysia - just to find that one taste that always reminds me of my younger years - the original taste of Nasi Lemak.
On one particular warm afternoon in Kuala Lumpur, I found myself craving the comforting embrace of a traditional Nasi Lemak. I tried so many versions of nasi lemak, but on this particular day, I yearned for a moment of culinary nostalgia. That's when I remembered hearing about Yalo Yalo Yumm, a quaint eatery nestled along Jalan Klang Lama, known for its authentic take on this beloved Malaysian dish.
Why take people's words when I can authenticate it myself, right?
So, there I was driving towards Yalo Yalo Yumm as directed by the trusted waze. As I approached the Residensi Platinum Arena, the inviting aroma of coconut-infused rice and spicy sambal wafted through the air, guiding me to the restaurant's entrance. The ambiance was a delightful blend of modern comfort and traditional charm, with subtle nods to Melaka's rich culinary heritage.
Settling into a cozy corner, my friends and I perused the menu, which offered a variety of Nasi Lemak sets accompanied by an array of side dishes. After some contemplation, I opted for Nasi Lemak Klasik with Ayam Goreng Berempah, enticed by the promise of spiced fried chicken. My friends chose theirs and I reminded them don't order the same dish so that we could try other dishes too.
Our order arrived promptly, and it was obvious that all were cook to order - you could literally see the steam arises from the dish. The rice was perfectly steamed, each grain glistening with a subtle sheen of coconut milk. Accompaniments of crispy ikan bilis, fresh cucumber slices, a perfectly fried egg, and a generous dollop of sambal completed the ensemble. And what's special is the set also comes with Kangkung Rebus (boiled water spinach) - giving the authentic nasi lemak that I remember.
Here, you get to choose your sambal—whether you prefer it dry or slightly saucy. Both pack just the right amount of heat without being too oily, making the Nasi Lemak even more irresistible.
What makes it even better is the variety of delicious side dishes you can pair it with. From the crispy, flavorful Ayam Goreng Berempah to the rich and tender Ayam Rendang and Daging Rendang, there’s something for every craving. Seafood lovers can indulge in Sambal Kerang or the sweet and spicy Sambal Manis Udang, while those who enjoy bold flavors will love the Sambal Petai. And for something uniquely satisfying, the Tempe Kicap Manis adds a deliciously sweet and savory twist to your plate.
We also added Kerabu Mangga Hijau Ikan Bilis (Green Mango Salad with Fried Anchovies), which we all loved to the final slice of mango. I'm literally drooling remembering the taste of that kerabu.
If you’re not in the mood for rice, you can go for their Mee Goreng Bodo (Simple Fried Noodle) instead. But fair warning—this fried noodle dish packs quite a punch, and some might find it on the spicy side (for me at least)!
For light bites, there are crispy and flavorful snacks like Popia Mayo Udang Berjaring (Fried Netted Prawn Mayo Roll) or Popia Ayam Berjaring (Fried Chicken Netted Roll Scallion). These delicate, net-wrapped spring rolls are perfectly crispy on the outside, yet soft and flavorful inside—just the thing to munch on while waiting for your main meal.
To wash it all down, their Thai Tea and Thai Green Tea are must-tries. Thick, creamy, and just the right balance of sweetness, these drinks are refreshing yet indulgent.
You like coffee? You gotta try the Vietnam Drip Coffee - hot or cold, either are just wonderful.
And if you have room for dessert, (you HAVE TO make room for dessert) don’t miss the Yalo Halo—a special treat brought in from the Philippines. This colorful dessert is a mix of different flavors and textures, with ingredients like sweet corn pudding, cendol, and more surprises hidden inside. The real secret to enjoying it? Make sure to scoop from every part of the cup to experience the full burst of flavors in every bite! It was the perfect ending to a memorable meal.
As I stepped back into the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur, I carried with me not just a satisfied appetite, but a heart warmed by the flavors of home. Yalo Yalo Yumm had not only met my expectations but had woven a tapestry of taste that I would cherish and eagerly return to.
For those seeking an authentic Nasi Lemak experience that pays homage to tradition while embracing modern sensibilities, Yalo Yalo Yumm is a destination worth exploring. Seriously, Nasi Lemak here memang LENGKAP RASA ie Perfectly Balanced Flavour!
