Najib Wants Sapura Energy Debate After Hari Raya Says Fahmi
Najib Razak and Anwar Ibrahim have both agreed to have a debate on Sapura Energy Bhd, which announced a loss of RM8.9 billion last year.PETALING JAYA: Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and former prime minister Najib Razak have yet to set a time and date for their debate on financially-troubled Sapura Energy Bhd.
PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said both sides had different opinions on when the debate should be held.
“Anwar is ready for the debate but Najib’s team wants it to be held a few days after Hari Raya. I think people want to see the debate soon,” he said according to a Malaysiakini report.
He added that representatives from both sides would meet tomorrow to discuss the matter.
Fahmi Fadzil.According to Fahmi, besides the time and date, the other things that needed to be ironed out were the media partners and moderators.
Najib had previously asked the representatives for Anwar and PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli to arrange for the debate to be televised if any broadcaster was interested in doing so.
Recently, Anwar said he was ready to debate Najib at “any time”.
This came after Najib accepted Rafizi’s invitation for a debate on the government-linked company, Sapura Energy, and told the former Pandan MP to invite Anwar to join in, too.
Sapura Energy announced a loss of RM8.9 billion last year.
Najib has advocated government intervention to save the company, while Rafizi says this would only benefit a “handful of elites” and the money could be put to better use to serve Malaysians. - FMT
