Tensions continue to escalate between Umno-BN and DAP following the High Court’s dismissal of former premier Najib Abdul Razak’s house arrest bid.
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan and MCA president Wee Ka Siong have now launched pointed critiques at DAP.
In a social media post this afternoon, Mohamad (above, right), who also serves as foreign minister, said he too is “waiting to celebrate when the court ‘officiates’ the Penang tunnel, perhaps sometime in mid-2026.”
Although he did not elaborate, the remark is a clear reference to the ongoing corruption trial against DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng in connection with the Penang undersea tunnel project.
Responding to Mohamad’s jibe, Lim asked the former how to have an official launch when not a single sen had been paid yet.
“Only Mat Jenin can get a free tunnel,” the former finance minister said on Facebook, referring to a Malay folklore character who accidentally falls to his death after indulging in daydreaming while working.
Lim Guan EngLim, 64, is facing an amended charge of using his position as then Penang chief minister to solicit RM3.3 million in bribes as inducement to assist former Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd’s Zarul Ahmad Zulkifli secure the undersea tunnel project worth RM6.34 billion.
The alleged offence took place at the Penang Chief Minister’s Office between January 2011 and August 2017.
In a second amended charge, Lim is accused of soliciting a 10 percent profit from the company as gratification to secure the project. This offence allegedly occurred near The Gardens Hotel, Lingkaran Syed Putra, Mid Valley City, in March 2011.
Additionally, the Bagan MP faces two further charges for causing the disposal of two plots of land worth RM208.8 million, belonging to the Penang government, to companies linked to the project.
‘Why partner with crook lovers?’
In a separate post, Wee challenged DAP disciplinary committee chairperson Tony Pua, who had labelled Najib’s supporters as “lovers of the biggest crook in Malaysia.”
“If Pua truly despises the so-called ‘crooks’ and ‘crook lovers’ so much, why is DAP still partnering with these same ‘crook lovers’?
“If he’s serious, he should just ask his party to break off all collaboration and leave the Madani government,” he said in a Facebook post.
Ex-PM Najib Abdul Razak and DAP leader Tony PuaEarlier, Malaysiakini reported Pua defending DAP MP Yeo Bee Yin, who described the High Court’s ruling as another reason to celebrate the year-end. 
Pua stressed that both he and his party take pride in having played a pivotal role in the kleptocrat’s downfall and continued incarceration.
“Those chastising us to have ‘humanity’, who continue to love the crook, no one’s stopping you. But don’t stop the rest of us Malaysians from celebrating justice upheld,” he added.
While not naming anyone directly, Pua’s remarks were clearly directed at Umno secretary-general Aysraf Wajdi Dusuki, who called Yeo’s statement “extremely rude, excessive, and utterly lacking in humanity” and insulting to a former leader deeply loved by the Umno family.
Umno sec-gen Asyraf Wajdi DusukiAysraf also suggested Umno might need to review its position in the coalition government with DAP.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim urged patience and prudence in handling the matter concerning Najib.
“Even though there are those who choose not to express sympathy with Najib and his family, it is not wise to muddy the situation and heighten tensions in this sensitive situation,” he said. - Mkini
