Najib Semenyih By Election A Chance To Correct Mistakes
SEMENYIH: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has told Indian voters here that the upcoming by-election on March 2 gives them a chance to correct any mistakes they could have made before.
"We want the Indian community to realise and understand that if they had made a mistake in the general election, the time has come to correct that.
"Pakatan Harapan will still be the government in Selangor but we can send a message that the voters in Semenyih do not want to be fooled by the sweet promises made before the general election," he said.
The former prime minister said this to more than a 100 Indian residents of Taman Bangi Jaya here during a Ponggal Festival event on Sunday (Feb 10).
"Let's not be fooled again. If you do, then we will have to check our heads," he said.
Najib said that during his time as premier for nine years, he had done a lot to help the Indian community including launching the Malaysian Indian Blueprint.
The event was organised by the Hulu Langat Indian Progressive Front (IPF) party, a splinter party of MIC.
The party had in the past applied to be a component party of Barisan, but they were never accepted into the former ruling coalition.
Also present were IPF president Datuk M. Sambanthan, MIC leaders and Umno leaders.
A by-election was called in Semenyih following the death of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia assemblyman Bakhtiar Mohd Nor on Jan 11.
Barisan, PSM and Pakatan have announced their intention to contest but have yet to name candidates.
The Election Commission has fixed nomination day on Feb 16 while early voting will be held on Feb 26.In GE14 last year, Bakhtiar won the contest with 23,428 votes and an 8,964 majority.- Star
