(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: Troubled budget airline MYAirline has warned its customers seeking refunds of the danger of potential scams.
In a statement released today, MYAirline said it was aware of reports of people posing as officers from the airline and reaching out to customers awaiting refunds.
“These scammers employ various tactics, including phone calls, emails or messages on social media platforms to deceive customers into providing personal information or making payments under (false) pretences,” it said.
MYAirline also urged its customers to verify the source of the information with its official communications team when they receive any communication regarding refunds.
The airline also urged customers to avoid sharing personal information or disclosing any personal or financial details to any unverified sources claiming to be from MYAirline.
Earlier today, FMT received an email titled “MyAirLine Refunds”, which requested banking details by Jan 3 from whoever wished to expedite the process for refunds, promising a refund within 48 hours.
The email was signed by a “Datuk Seri Azharuddin Rahman”, who declared himself as an “accountable executive”.
On Oct 12, MYAirline abruptly suspended operations, citing “severe financial challenges”. This came 11 months after it took to the skies.
The airline later said the suspension of operations was due to the lack of a backup plan to resolve its faltering finances, and blamed its failure to inform passengers of the suspension on an “oversight”.
Subsequently, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) suspended the licence of the troubled low-cost carrier. - FMT
