Muslims Beg To Differ With Hadi Awang S One Sided Notion Of Ulama As The Prophet S Heir

A FEW righteous Muslims have attempted to correct PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang’s seemingly lobsided interpretation that Muslim scholars a.k.a. ulama are heirs of Prophet Muhammad who fight and uphold “Islam Rabbani” (teachings of the one and only God).
In this regard, the Islamic cleric claimed that every prophet had staunch supporters and followers from among their companions who accept the knowledge and struggle of the prophet.
“On this basis, the scholars have the duty to remind and guide their people,” he penned in his Facebook page in conjunction with the National Level Rabbani Scholars’ Assembly 1.0 in Machang, Kelantan yesterday (Jan 25).


“On this basis, scholars must be together with Islamic congregations and groups to ensure that they don’t drift (into the wrong direction) with the times.”
However, one commenter pointed to what he termed as “political scholars” who manipulated religion for “interests of their political parties to the point of believing that they are the only ones on the right side”.

“This attitude divides society and tarnishes the image of Islam which emphasises unity and justice,” he sensible argued. “Religion should be a guide, not a political tool. Scholars need to be honest by prioritising the interests of the people, not worldly agendas.”
Another commenter who identified himself as Pakatan Harapan Supporters distinguished between what he termed as “good and evil ulama” while slamming PAS dishonouring Islam for its political gains.
“The good scholar coveys the message of the Prophet and invites people to the right path while the evil and vile scholar who is more wretched than the Dajjal (false messiah) rides on religion for political interests.

“They’ll issue fatwa to suit his own interests of himself and that of his clicks, thus causing division among the people and allowing what the Prophet forbids to happen, e.g. JIHAD donations for people who slander to prevent them from losing their parliamentary seats.”
This is when one commenter stressed the need “to remember and understand that not all scholars are the heirs of the Prophet because some known as ulama Su’ (scholars who interpret the verses of the Quran and the hadiths according to their own whims and fancies) are greedy for worldly positions and wealth”.

Such misinterpretation of Islam has led to chaos “because some scholars are permitting slanders as a daily staple”, according to another commenter.

“Scholars don’t slander people. Scholars don’t declare fellow Muslims to be infidels. Scholars don’t label people who don’t support them with various (despisable) names,” one commenter further justified.


“Scholars don’t promote hatred. Scholars don’t promote false religion. Scholars don’t foster racial hatred. Scholars don’t support Khawarij (dissenting/extremist) politics.”
To cut a long story short, Hadi’s view is likely lobsided in that he has forgotten “to differentiate between Rabbani scholars and Su’ scholars” within PAS which he is spearheading.
