Mural Adorning Zus Coffee Outlet In Ipoh Draws Plenty Of Praise And Admiration
A PICTURE speaks a thousand words. This most definitely seems to be the case with a giant mural adorning the side of a Zus Coffee outlet in Ipoh, Perak.
Images of the artwork were posted on X by the artist himself – Nas (@NasSuha) who proudly proclaimed it to be his biggest project thus far.
He said the entire project took about a month to complete due to bad weather and also because some itchy fingers had decided to abscond with his supplies, not once but twice!
He also posted a video detailing the finishing touches while inviting all to visit the Zus Coffee outlet in Taman Jubilee, Ipoh to take Instagrammable pictures!
The poster thanked Zus Coffee for trusting him with the project and for hiring a human artist.
His post has generated over 539K views while also getting plenty of praise for his artistic endeavours.
The mural seemed to have the desired effect as one netizen proclaimed that he would need to visit Ipoh again soon just to see this.
Meanwhile, another netizen shared pictures of the paintings inside the cafe, confirming that they were indeed beautiful works of art.
One netizen queried whether artists were allowed to put their signature on it, even when its a commissioned piece. The artist clarified that Zus Coffee had no issues with him putting his stamp on the mural, saying it was the client’s way of supporting the artist.
The post also had the desired effect of drumming interest with potential clients with one enquiring about costs as well as the municipal council requirements. The artist then clarified that a project of this size would cost five-figures while any outdoor mural needed the municipal council’s approval.
One netizen then duly suggested that the artist aim for a six-figure project next.
One commenter enquired about the protective clear coating and how often would it need to be reapplied considering it is outdoors. The artists says it may possibly need re-coating once in a while.
One netizen pointed out how wonderful it is to see human ingenuity at work (as opposed to AI generated artwork).
There are a few things to note. First, kudos to Zus Coffee for entrusting local talent with this project. It is a great move to encourage local artists to shine and make a living.
Secondly, this is great marketing and generating positive headlines after the miserable attempts at tainting the brand (for its name linking it to Greek god Zeus as well as for working with Adidas at the height of pro-Palestine protests).
Last but not least, it is great to see Malaysians celebrate this mural for what it is – simply great art, instead of harping on why the painting is of a Chinese woman or why couldn’t it be a tudung-clad Malay lady.
With the furore over ham sandwiches hogging the headlines (pun fully intended), this makes for a refreshing change. – Focus Malaysia
