Mum Claims Cop Told Her To Drop Report After Autistic Son Beaten At Work

Syaidina Zurhailef Hailmi, a 23-year-old autistic man, has allegedly been assaulted by his colleague at a fast food outlet where they work.
To make things worse, his mother, Adra Azura, claimed that an investigative officer of the Wangsa Maju district police station pressured them to retract the police report she lodged about the incident.
“I was advised to drop the case to avoid my son being remanded because there is no special holding cell for people with disabilities,” Adra alleged.
She added that the officer told her that both Syaidina and his colleague would need to be remanded if the investigation is to continue.
Determined to seek justice, Adra insisted that the police review the workplace’s CCTV footage to uncover the truth.
“As a mother, my heart breaks seeing my son being treated this way. Is there no place for my son in the eyes of society?” she questioned.
Adra also said Syaidina had no history of fighting or even being attacked and, besides getting bruises and swelling, the incident had left him traumatised.
She added that the alleged assault occurred around 2pm, following which she filed a police report at the Wangsa Maju police station at 6.33pm after taking her son to the hospital for treatment.
Adra said was later called to the police station again at 8pm, where she was allegedly pressured to withdraw the report.
Police to call up Syaidina, colleague
When contacted by Malaysiakini, Wangsa Maju district police chief Mohamad Lazim Ismail said that both parties had lodged a report on the incident.
He said that the police would summon both Syaidina and his colleague for further questioning.
“We have to record everyone’s statements first,” he said.
However, he did not respond to Malaysiakini’s inquiry about the allegation that Adra had been pressured to withdraw her report.
She then told Malaysiakini that she would not retract the police report and hoped to get to the bottom of the matter for her son's mental well-being.
“I want to know what actually happened, if he’s guilty then I have to tell the doctor and get a proper treatment for him,” she said, adding that Syaidina’s doctor confirmed that he was traumatised by the incident.
Adra also claimed that both her son’s and his colleague’s names had been removed from their workplace’s roster, and she was unsure whether they had been fired. - Mkini
