Muhyiddin Pn Right To Reject Tie Up With Madani Govt
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has defended Perikatan Nasional’s decision to stay out of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government, claiming it was the “best decision” in light of public dissatisfaction with the current administration.
ADSIn his policy speech at the 8th Bersatu annual general assembly, held at the Ideal Convention Centre, Shah Alam, Muhyiddin also underscored the party’s commitment to take over Putrajaya after the next 16th general election.
“Looking at the rot within the Madani government today, and the people’s rejection and condemnation of their leaders’ conduct, I’m convinced that not forming a government with them was the best decision made by Bersatu and PN,” he said.
Addressing some 2,000 delegates from 202 Bersatu divisions nationwide, Muhyiddin tonight stressed that PN would not abandon its principles merely to seize power.
“For us, the end does not justify the means. Goals never justify improper methods,” said the Pagoh MP.

Muhyiddin was sworn in as the eighth prime minister on March 1, 2020, succeeding Dr Mahathir Mohamad, following the “Sheraton Move” which involved defections of lawmakers from PKR to Bersatu.
The shift in political alliances and downfall of the first Pakatan Harapan-led administration were initially prompted by Mahathir’s resignation as the seventh prime minister on Feb 24.
After the last general election, which resulted in a hung Parliament, Muhyiddin rejected the previous Agong’s suggestion for PN to form a coalition government with Pakatan Harapan.
“Since the beginning, we already discussed that we will not cooperate with Harapan.
“No matter what is the purpose, we will not agree to it. So when I was asked to sign the offer letter, I signed ‘disagreed’,” he was reported as saying.
‘Virus of politics’
In a veiled shot at Umno, Muhyiddin accused his rivals of hypocrisy, saying some had loudly opposed DAP and Anwar during party meetings but later struck deals to form a government together after the 15th general election.
“Why? Because each of them is obsessed with power. They have tasted power and cannot live without it.
ADS“By hook or by crook, they are willing to lie to the people, deceive their own party members, just to secure positions for themselves,” said the former Umno deputy president.
Muhyiddin further described such behaviour as a “vile and nauseating virus of politics”.
“The people are lied to and manipulated into supporting parties based on principles and struggles. But after the election, all of this is discarded just so a handful of individuals can enjoy power,” he said.
Seeking stronger mandate
Muhyiddin insisted PN would not follow the same path, saying the coalition is committed to seeking a stronger mandate in the next general election.
“Yes, the purpose of politics is to gain power. But it is also about values, manners, wisdom, and the lineage of our struggle.
“That is why we choose to continue fighting until we get a bigger mandate in the coming polls,” he added.

In his speech, Muhyiddin also reaffirmed PN’s move to initiate the formation of a bloc of opposition parties sharing similar values and spirit.
“So far, 12 political parties representing Malaysia’s multiracial society have joined this coalition to defend the people’s welfare and safeguard national interests,” he said.
Apart from PN component parties, also in attendance were representatives from Pejuang, Putra, Muda, Iman and Berjasa. - Mkini
