Muhyiddin Bn Won Pelangai But Support For Pn Rising
Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin said even though BN won the Pelangai by-election last night, it did not manage to bolster support despite help from its new partner, Pakatan Harapan.
On the contrary, the former prime minister said PN performed better in the by-election compared to its results in the 15th general election.
“The results show that BN failed to increase their support even though they have joined with Harapan, and the whole machinery including government resources being deployed blatantly to help BN’s campaign.
“I believe, as in the trend in the state elections and previous by-elections, that there is no obvious vote transferability between Harapan and BN.
“Instead, what has happened is the shift of support towards PN, especially among the Malays,” he said on Facebook today.
In the Aug 12 six state elections, PN clinched landslide victories in three states while making in-roads in states held by Harapan-BN.
Pelangai assemblyperson Amizar Abu AdamMeanwhile, BN had a disastrous showing in the state elections, winning a total of only 19 seats across six states.
However, in the Pelangai polls last night, BN’s candidate Amizar Abu Adam successfully defended the seat for the coalition, garnering 62.37 percent of the votes cast.
PN’s Kasim Samat obtained 37.26 percent of the votes cast.
Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub today said the results last night were a positive sign for the federal government.
However, he also acknowledged there is a lot to improve with regard to their performance and Malay voters’ confidence towards the new Harapan-BN cooperation.
“Voters are starting to realise that the federal unity government with Harapan-BN is the best for the rakyat - which prioritises harmonious multi-racial relations,” he said in a statement today. - Mkini
