Tuan Ibrahim Explains Why Dr M Not Muhyiddin Adviser For Sg4
PELANGAI BY-ELECTION | The four states under Perikatan Nasional had chosen Dr Mahathir Mohamad as their adviser to get him onboard and tap the former prime minister’s influence, said Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
This was instead of appointing PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin who is already part of the coalition, according to the PAS deputy president.
“Muhyiddin is already a part of us, it is okay that we don’t appoint him, because he is already onboard and always together in discussions.
“Actually, the reason we took in Mahathir, or anyone for that matter, is because of other factors. There are ‘faktor tersurat dan tersirat’ (written and implied factors).
“We want as many as we can get to be with us. Each figure has his own supporters and followers.
“If we can get influential figures like this to join us, they can build a wave, either big or small,” he said during a dialogue session with several NGOs earlier this evening.
Tuan Ibrahim was responding to a suggestion from Perkasa that PN should appoint Muhyiddin as the adviser for Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, and Terengganu, instead of Mahathir.
All four states were won by PN during the 15th general election and the recent six state elections. PAS currently helms the administration of all four states.
They recently made Mahathir the unofficial adviser of the four state governments, dubbed the SG4.
Perkasa president Syed Hasan Syed Ali later clarified that he did not propose replacing Mahathir, but said Muhyiddin should also serve as an advisor alongside Mahathir.
Muhyiddin okay with Mahathir
Speaking to reporters later, Tuan Ibrahim, who is the Pahang opposition chief said there was no issue of PAS trying to prop up Mahathir politically or to sideline Muhyiddin.
He said Mahathir has indicated that he only wanted to contribute and has no intention to run in elections.
“Mahathir doesn’t want to contest in elections anymore. He said this himself.
“He only said that he wanted to contribute whatever he can while he is still around,” Tuan Ibrahim said.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin told reporters that he has no problem with Mahathir being appointed as the SG4 adviser.
The Bersatu president said the decision was made by the four states and he supported the move.“The decision was made by PN, particularly the four states. Maybe they saw Mahathir as a statesperson who is very experienced and can advise them.
“I support the move and we hope that the four states can further develop their economy after this,” Muhyiddin said.
Asked about the suggestion for the states to appoint him instead, Muhyiddin turned down the notion.
“It’s okay. I am also in PN.
“Whenever we are needed to assist any state, especially those under PN control, I am ready to help,” he said. - Mkini
