Muda Must Be Willing To Kamikaze In Impossible Seats
Muda's ties with Pakatan Harapan are on the rocks - and it all has to do with seat allocations.
Yes, Muda is making a reasonable request to contest in just six to seven parliamentary seats.
It’s unclear how many of these seats are safe ones, but my advice to Muda is to actually ask for more seats - those that are impossible to win.
Seats such as Bagan Datuk, Pekan, Mersing, Kota Tinggi, Marang, and Kota Bharu - BN or PAS strongholds where Harapan has almost no chance to win - should be on Muda's list of demands.
Strategically, contesting in these seats is a suicide mission.
If Muda is already prepared to risk everything by going solo, then that spirit and energy can also be channelled into a more strategic and politically sound gambit that would actually be beneficial.
By willing to go kamikaze for Harapan, Muda would improve its negotiating power for at least a few safe seats to honour their sacrifice.
It would also show voters and political allies alike that despite being a new party with greenhorn politicians, Muda is willing to go the extra mile and take risks for the sake of championing the people.
Muda has already shown during the Johor state election that it was willing to break some norms by fielding a Chinese candidate in Tenang when it is usually Malays who contest the seat.
Hence, with the stakes in GE15 being even higher, Muda, too, must up the ante.
As it stands, Muda is in no position to ask for mostly safe seats to contest in, even if it’s just a handful. - Mkini
