GPS leader Alexander Nanta Linggi says the proposal for deputy prime ministers from Sabah and Sarawak must come with portfolios that will benefit the two states.PETALING JAYA: The posts of deputy prime ministers representing Sabah and Sarawak must carry the power to approve projects or certain allocations for the benefit of the people, a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leader said.
GPS secretary-general Alexander Nanta Linggi said this is “more important than having that post given to a party leader”, Bernama reported.
While welcoming the proposed creation of three deputy prime ministers to represent Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, Nanta said the power to approve projects or certain allocations was more significant than the post itself.
“If there are to be three deputy prime ministers, there must be certain portfolios given for the posts to be effective for the good of Sabah and Sarawak,” he said after attending an oath-taking ceremony for a political secretary to the Sarawak premier in Kuching.

Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was recently reported to have proposed the creation of the three posts if BN secured a major victory in the 15th general election (GE15).
He said this proposal would be included in BN’s GE15 manifesto.
When asked to comment, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said: “Let us win the general election first.”
He said that if the matter was included in the BN manifesto, it would be implemented if the coalition was returned to power. - FMT
