Muda Launches Zahid S Re Indictment Campaign

Muda has launched a campaign demanding that the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) reopen its case into Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s corruption and abuse of power charges.
The party’s acting president, Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, said the campaign is important as people have the right to know the truth, and that Malaysians want to know “how people in government can get away with it”.
The campaign, she said, would involve a series of demonstrations, talks, and tours across the country.
“For me, this is not just a Muda campaign (but) for all Malaysians who want to know the truth.
“We are not afraid to take to the streets to demand Zahid’s re-indictment,” she said at a press conference at the Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) headquarters in Petaling Jaya, today.
Zahid was granted a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) on Sept 4, 2023, from 47 charges of corruption, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds.
Then Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah had granted the DNAA, as applied by then deputy public prosecutor Dusuki Mokhtar.
The charges involved 12 counts of criminal breach of trust, eight corruption charges, and 27 counts of money laundering.
A DNAA means that the person can be re-charged again in the future, if the prosecution wishes to do so.
In addition, Zahid was also claimed to be involved in the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) scandal, regarding the contract awarded to Boustead Naval Shipyard (BNS) to build six ships for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) in 2011, at a cost of RM9 billion.
The scandal came to light when it was discovered that not a single ship was completed, even though over RM6 billion had been paid to the contractor.
In August 2023, Zahid said he should not be blamed for the LCS procurement failure because he was not the defence minister when the project was awarded.
During the 15th general election campaign, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, then in the opposition, was among those who criticised the scandal.
The MACC opened an investigation into the scandal and made several arrests, including against BNS’ former managing director, but to date, no major political figures have been charged.
Meanwhile, Amira said the 47 charges against Zahid must be re-investigated as the DNAA granted to him was not a court decision.
“It was not a court decision but the AGC’s. Therefore, the answer must come from the AGC.”
Ready to be sued
In another development, the party’s secretary-general, Ainie Haziqah, said she was ready to face Zahid’s lawsuit against her.
“I welcome (any legal action) if he wants to pursue the lawsuit, because the people have the right to see the truth revealed in open court.
“As Muda’s secretary-general, I believe it is my responsibility to raise high-profile issues involving public interest.
“I will not bow to any legal threats. In fact, I am ready to debate openly with Zahid if he really wants to clear his name,” she said.
Zahid, who is also the Umno president, previously sent a notice of claim to Ainie, asking her to apologise and for damages.
