Ft Mic Approves Motion To Withdraw From Bn Citing Zahid S Failures
Federal Territories MIC division’s annual general meeting yesterday approved a motion to urge the party’s central leadership to withdraw from BN, after Kedah and Penang MIC approved similar motions earlier this month.
Federal Territories MIC chairperson S Rajah said the party leadership must now decide whether to leave the coalition, arguing that BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has consistently failed to defend the coalition’s component parties from being sidelined.
“Recently, the government announced that (PKR vice-president) R Ramanan has been given the responsibility to regulate and monitor the implementation of projects involving temples and Tamil schools.
“Is MIC not qualified for this task, when this party has a long history of more than 79 years?” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Rajah pointed out that Zahid should have discussed delegating Indian community affairs to MIC with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
“In fact, you are more interested in your new friends from Pakatan Harapan. So, what’s wrong if MIC leaves BN to forge its own path?” he added.

BN chairperson and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi with Prime Minister Anwar IbrahimOn Aug 21, Anwar announced through Treasury secretary-general Johan Mahmood Merican that Ramanan would be in charge of Indian community affairs, including formulating new initiatives for the group.
Up to MIC top leadership
More than 400 delegates who attended the Federal Territories MIC annual general meeting yesterday unanimously supported the motion for MIC to leave BN.
Also present at the meeting were MIC president SA Vigneswaran and his deputy, M Saravanan.
Rajah added that the Federal Territories MIC will fully support any decision made by the party’s top leadership.
On Aug 9, Kedah MIC approved a motion to cooperate with Perikatan Nasional and did not rule out quitting BN, while Penang MIC also passed a similar resolution. Both state chapters said they would also leave the decision to the party’s national leadership. - Mkini
