Mtuc To Go Ahead With Triennial Conference
MTUC secretary-general Kamarul Baharin Mansor said the conference’s dates were approved by the majority of delegates at the congress’ general meeting on March 20.PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) will be going ahead with its triennial delegates conference (TDC), with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob set to be the guest-of-honour.
In a statement, MTUC secretary-general Kamarul Baharin Mansor said the TDC’s dates of July 2 to July 3 were approved by the majority of delegates at the congress’ general meeting on March 20.
He said the MTUC had met the Registrar of Societies (RoS) for advice on former president Abdul Halim Mansor’s dispute of the TDC.
“The RoS has stated that the general meeting is the highest decision-making body for matters concerning the TDC.

“MTUC will continue with the conference as decided by the general meeting as we have yet to receive any court order restricting the conference from proceeding,” he said in a statement.
Earlier, FMT reported that Halim has filed an injunction to stop the current leadership from holding the meeting on Sunday.
According to MTUC sources, Halim’s lawyers filed the affidavit on Tuesday together with an emergency certificate and they were expecting the court to make a decision tomorrow.
Kamarul said a notice on the TDC had been emailed to all workers unions on April 6.
He said the TDC would be attended by 509 delegates from 115 unions, with 12 unions unable to attend after missing the deadline to submit delegates’ forms.
“Those that disagree with the general meeting’s decision will continue to try to stop the conference from proceeding, as has happened in the past.
“For the record, during the last (MTUC) election, there were quarters that sought a court order to halt the election from going ahead. MTUC will continue fulfilling its responsibility and act based on its constitution.” - FMT
