Mp Questions Hospital Ban On Food Delivery To Patients Staff
The circular stating that food delivery has been banned at the hospital.PETALING JAYA: An opposition MP has questioned a circular which has banned food delivery to patients and staff at a hospital, calling it “illogical” and “unfair”.
Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said he was informed that the directive was issued to “protect the cafeteria”.
“I have verified (the authenticity of) the circular with doctors at the hospital,” he told FMT.
FMT is withholding the name of the hospital.

Earlier, Yii, who is also the chairman of the parliamentary select committee (PSC) on health, said “helping” the cafeteria should not be at the expense of healthcare workers, especially those who were on-call after the cafeteria closes at 6pm.
“I hope the health ministry takes note of this. It is the responsibility of the ministry to look after the welfare of its healthcare workers, not a private business at the hospital,” he said in a tweet.
According to the circular dated Aug 9, shared on Yii’s Twitter account, heads of departments at the hospital had agreed to enforce the ban.
This comes after reports that leftover food and garbage had attracted pests which affected hygiene in the wards.
The hospital also reminded the cafeteria staff to improve its services and prepare meals for other staff and visitors based on their needs.
The Hartal Doktor Kontrak group shared its disapproval, saying that those who made the decision had forgotten what it was like to be on-call and feel hungry.
“Health ministry logic, banning food delivery. Might as well ban eating so that there will be no waste produced,” it said in a tweet. - FMT
