KUALA LUMPUR: All mosques and surau under the supervision of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) have been ordered to perform solat hajat for Palestine throughout the remaining days of Ramadan.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar (pic) said the directive underscores Malaysia’s solidarity with the Palestinian people in light of Israel’s brutal attacks in Gaza, which violate the ceasefire agreement.
He said the government strongly condemns the actions of the Zionist regime, describing the killing of 404 people, including women and children, and the injuring of 562 others in Israel’s airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, calling it an unacceptable war crime.
"Muslims nationwide are also urged to pray to Allah SWT for the safety and victory of the oppressed Palestinians.
"Malaysia remains steadfast in supporting the Palestinian struggle and will not remain silent against this injustice,” he said in a statement on Facebook on Wednesday (March 19).
Na’im also called on the international community to take firm action to end Israel’s aggression and ensure justice for the Palestinian people.
On Saturday (March 15), Israel launched airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, breaking the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on Jan 19.
It was reported that eight humanitarian workers with the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisations (Mapim) were among those killed in the airstrikes.
The volunteers, all Palestinians, were killed while putting up tents to shelter displaced families in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza. – Bernama
