Influencers Share Tips On Best Practices For Fasting Homemade Kurma Balls Recommended For Long Lasting Energy Booster

IT’S becoming increasingly common for non-Muslims to partake in fasting during the month of Ramadan, be it to show solidarity with their Muslim brethren or just a timely detox for the body.
However, one can’t just jump in and expect everything to be hunky dory. As explained by a couple of social media influencers, newbies to the fasting ritual may end up fainting from the sudden shock of food and water deprivation.
TV personality Ceddy Ang (@ceddyornot) has been fasting for two years and gushes about how it is great to hit the body’s reset button.
However, some precautions must be taken by those who are trying it for the first time. As explained by celebrity health influencer Dr Soo Wincci who has been fasting for 14 years, it may be advisable for non-Muslims trying it for the first time to ease into the practice by going on a liquid diet first, i.e., only liquids are allowed.
The former beauty pageant contestant further noted that it is not the same for Muslims who have been conditioned from a young age to undergo fasting.
Non-Muslim adults who have built up firm dietary habits may find it tough going, saying she nearly fainted herself when she tried fasting for the first time.
Dr Soo also clarifies the misconception that eating a huge meal for sahur would help alleviate the hunger pangs later in the day.
Agreeing with Ang, the 40-year-old actress and former model stressed the importance of ingesting the right food and drink for the early morning meal.
The winner of the Miss World Malaysia title in 2008 then proceeded to share her secret – kurma energy balls. Looking a lot like a popular chocolate brand, she shared that these balls, which were a blend of fruit and nuts, was a healthy and easy way to last the course.
Not only were the energy balls easy to prepare as no cooking was required, they were also incredibly convenient.
Highlighting those who are unable to wake up in the wee hours for sahur meal, just keep these balls bedside for a quick and healthy snack. Dr Soo said she could subsist on six energy balls that would keep her going till she broke fast.
These kurma energy balls were also handy when breaking fast, highlighting the plight of millions of Malaysian Muslims who regularly get stuck in traffic jams during puasa month. Keep a few in the pocket and it should be enough to keep you going till you get a proper meal.
The handy tips were well received with many requesting for the recipe (which she has generously shared in a separate Facebook post).

Others also commented that it was sound advice to gently ease oneself into the ritual of fasting. Speaking from experience, one netizen counselled starting a fortnight earlier to allow the body to adjust accordingly. He also confirmed that the first attempt was the hardest.

If you intend to try fasting, do bear in mind the above tips, especially the quick and easy recipe for the kurma energy balls. Even if you don’t succeed, you will have a delicious snack for your troubles.
