More Than 10 Govt Mps To Support Pn Soon Bersatu Leader Claims
More than 10 backbenchers are set to voice support for Perikatan Nasional, a Bersatu leader has claimed.
According to Bersatu supreme council member Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof "internal negotiations" are currently ongoing among the coalition's leadership on the matter.
He also claimed the 10 MPs comprise lawmakers from various parties, including PKR, who would make the "first batch" to cross over due to disappointment over the coalition government being "led by DAP”.
"Rather than speculating about more Bersatu MPs supporting the government, I think talks of government-bloc MPs, including from BN and PKR, supporting PN to form a new government, are more realistic.
"I heard about more than 10 MPs wanting to switch blocs. They are studying issues plaguing the government today and realise that it is led by DAP," the former entrepreneur development and cooperative minister told Sinar Harian.
However, Redzuan neither provided names of the MPs allegedly making the switch nor provided evidence to back his statement.
Prime Minister Anwar IbrahimHe said this after being asked about rumours of more Bersatu MPs voicing their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in days to come.
'Govt is fragile’
On Tuesday, Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal from Bersatu joined the list of Bersatu MPs backing Anwar.
Previously, four Bersatu MPs had pledged support for Anwar's leadership.
They are Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).
With support from five Bersatu MPs, Anwar should now have 152 parliamentarians on his side. However, this cannot be proven until bloc voting takes place in the Dewan Rakyat.
According to Sinar Harian, PN insiders said that at least eight more Bersatu lawmakers from Perak and Kedah are set to follow in the footsteps of the five MPs soon.
Amid this, Redzuan still claimed that one of the 17 component parties in the coalition government is set to quit soon, to support PN en bloc.
"Even if the coalition government garners the support of 154 MPs, the support is still 'fragile’.
"I urge PN lawmakers to not make decisions they will regret when we form the government soon." - Mkini
