The four Bersatu MPs who have stated their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim are (from left) Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim and Jeli MP Zahari Kechik.SHAH ALAM: Bersatu Supreme Council member Rosol Wahid is confident that there will be no more MPs from his party declaring their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He said he also did not believe any Bersatu assemblymen would pledge their support for state governments led by the unity coalition.
“There is no point in more Bersatu MPs supporting (Anwar) as he has a two-thirds majority.
“I feel the government is only doing this to destroy our party,” the Kuala Terengganu MP said.
On Nov 9, deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported to have said that more opposition MPs are expected to announce their support for Anwar.
So far, four Perikatan Nasional MPs have declared support for Anwar while remaining in their parties.
Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) and Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar ) – all from Bersatu – recently pledged their support for the government, saying they were doing so for the sake of their constituents.
Meanwhile, Rosol said he was not approached to pledge support for Anwar.
“I did receive some phone calls from unknown numbers, but I did not answer them.
“I have also not received any emails or WhatsApp messages on the matter,” he added.
Previously, a Bersatu Supreme Council member told FMT that members of Anwar’s government were “trying by hook or by crook to finish off Bersatu”, resulting in Bersatu taking preventive measures to prevent further defections.
The party insider did not elaborate on the “preventive measures”, stating merely that “it’s confidential”. - FMT
