Moh Ultimately Aims To Impose Full Ban On Vape E Cigarette
PARLIAMENT | The Health Ministry is working towards fully banning the sale of vape and e-cigarette products, the Dewan Rakyat heard today.
This followed the authorities' findings that the smoking products are being abused for the consumption of illegal drugs.
Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said they are evaluating the effectiveness of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act (Act 852) first.
"Up to June this year, from 58 investigation papers opened (by the police), 70 percent of the vape products - either the open or closed system - were found positive for illegal substances.
ADS"Thus, I stress that it is important for us to go towards the ultimate aim of banning vapes," he said.
However, the ministry is looking to do this properly and enforce Act 852 to ensure its effectiveness.
"We do not want to just revoke licences (to sell vape products), like what six states have done so far, but end up seeing e-cigarettes still widely available, like what Kuala Nerus MP said is happening in Terengganu," he added.

The minister was responding to a supplementary question posed by Young Syefura Othman (Harapan-Bentong), who wanted to know what Putrajaya is doing to address open-system vapes being abused as a drug delivery mechanism.
An open-system vape or e-cigarette refers to a version where its liquid can be refilled manually, while a closed-system only allows the user to replace its pod or cartridge, or replace the device entirely.
According to Dzulkefly, the ministry will ban the sale of open-system vapes soon to prevent such abuse.
He said the police had opened 64 investigation papers last year and found that 80 percent contained drugs, including methamphetamine and synthetic cannabinoids. - FMT
