Moh Investigating Aefi Case Involving Father Of Perlis Mufti
The Health Ministry said today that they are conducting an investigation into an adverse event following immunisation (AEFI) case involving the father of Perlis Mufti Asri Zainul Abidin.
Asri (above) earlier today expressed his concern as his father had been hospitalized for over a week after his health condition turned to the worse after getting his Covid-19 vaccine booster dose.
"NPRA has contacted the relevant hospital and they are in the process of investigating and preparing the AEFI report," the ministry's Pharmacy Services Programme said in a short statement.
NPRA is the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency, which is responsible for testing, approving and monitoring medicinal products including vaccines for use in Malaysia.
Asri said his father started vomiting and became very weak after he received his third Covid-19 jab.
According to him, a doctor stated that his father once again suffered a stroke.
Taking his concern to Instagram, he raised a question if it had anything to do with the vaccine.
"What caused this was still unclear. Did it have anything to do with the booster dose or not? I am not sure.
"Only the experts can explain," the mufti said in a caption accompanying a photo of him visiting his father at the hospital.
Asri did not specify when his father received the booster dose or the type of vaccine he received.
He also urged MOH to take serious complaints about AEFI and conduct research on vaccine side effects especially in cases where the vaccines were found to be unsuitable to the recipients.
According to Asri, he was concerned after coming across several cases where vaccine recipients died after getting their booster dose. - Mkini
