Minister Summons Festival Organisers Over British Band S Rude Stunt
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has summoned the organiser of the Good Vibes Festival (GVF) 2023 to provide an explanation regarding a "stunt" made by The 1975’s frontman Matt Healy onstage last night.
Fahmi took to Twitter to criticise Healy’s act and said he will contact the authorities for a full report on the matter.
“This is rude behaviour. I have called the organisers to explain what happened,” Fahmi said in the Twitter post.
He was responding to the act by British band The 1975 at the festival held at the Sepang International Circuit last night, in which Healy performed while holding what is believed to be a bottle of alcohol, before kissing the male guitarist.
Healy also insulted Malaysia’s LGBT laws, and netizens also alleged online that he spat onstage and damaged a camera drone operated by the festival crew.
The band was one of the headliners, slated to kickstart the three-day festival.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi FadzilThe performance was halted halfway due to the incident. Healy later came back onstage to announce that the band has just been "banned from Kuala Lumpur".
This is not the first such incident involving Healy. He reportedly pulled a similar stunt in Dubai in 2019, where he kissed a male fan onstage.
The fiasco has made global headlines.
GVF later released a statement confirming that the band’s performance was cut short due to “non-compliance with local performance guidelines”.
“The festival organisers express their regret for any inconvenience caused and extend their appreciation for the continued support.
“Good Vibes Festival 2023 will proceed as planned on Saturday and Sunday, and attendees with Friday single-day festival wristbands can now choose to attend on either day by presenting their wristband at the main entrance,” it said. - Mkini
