Mca Youth Irked As Merdeka Linked With Palestine Liberation
Human Resources Minister Steven Sim’s statement that “Malaysia’s independence is incomplete without the liberation of Palestine” has drawn the ire of MCA Youth.
Deputy MCA Youth chief Jacob Lee labelled the DAP MP’s statement as absurd, saying it shows the lawmaker’s ignorance of the country’s history.
Sim made the remark during the government’s pro-Palestine rally held at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, last night.
“Sim made the irresponsible statement during the national month. Does he not know how Malaya achieved its independence and how Malaysia was formed?” Lee (above) questioned in a statement today.
“The independence of Malaya was achieved through a series of struggles, negotiations, and efforts. It was the result of the collective efforts and struggle of all the people.
“His ignorance and distortion of facts of the independence of our history is irritating.”
Human Resources Minister Steven SimIn his speech last night, Sim said the country’s independence since 1957 was incomplete as long as Palestine is not free and independent.
The Bukit Mertajam MP urged all Malaysians to support Palestine’s independence, stressing that what is happening there is a humanitarian issue.
“From 1948 to this year, it has been 76 years. Let our generation, our era, see from the river to the sea, Palestine will surely be free.”
Lee also questioned if Sim’s statement represents DAP’s stance.
“Does DAP intend to reshape the history of the formation of Malaysia by distorting historical facts like this?” he asked.
Last night’s rally was held to express Malaysia’s solidarity with the struggles of oppressed Palestinians, days after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran.
