China Press quoted MCA president Wee Ka Siong as saying the party had made this decision more than a year ago and was sticking with it.
“He is one of the best candidates to compete for the parliamentary seat,” he said.
Liow, a former health and transport minister, was the Bentong MP from 1999 to 2018. In the last general election, he lost the seat to DAP’s Wong Tack by over 2,000 votes.

According to data from 2018, Bentong has around 67,359 voters, of which 47% are Malays while 42% are Chinese.
Wee said Liow had remained dedicated in serving the people of Bentong despite losing the seat in 2018, adding that the former minister was on the ground helping victims during the floods this year.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, Liow was actively helping citizens, raising funds and gathering resources for those in need,” he added.
He also said Liow had maintained good ties with local organisations, NGOs and other political parties, adding that several locals wanted him to represent the constituency.
“MCA will give Liow our full support for him to win the Bentong parliamentary seat, so that he can complete the plans he had in the past that have yet to be fulfilled and get Bentong’s development back on track.”
Last week, Wong Tack said he was ready to face Liow again for the seat in GE15. If the pair are nominated, it will be their third time clashing in Bentong.
In 2013, Liow had defeated Wong Tack by a mere 379 votes. - FMT
