Maybank Debit Card Apps System Down
Users of Maybank's debit card, web application and website today are faced with difficulties getting financial transactions to go through.
Maybank said debit card usage is "temporarily unavailable".
Web applications Maybank2U and MAE, as well as the web browser version of Maybank2U are also affected.
The bank said users may experience "intermittent slowness" on the applications and website.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are working to resolve the matter as soon as possible," it said on Twitter.
This comes as Muslims nationwide gear up preparations for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which is expected to fall in a week’s time.
Responding to the tweet, many social media users expressed fear that multiple deductions were made to their accounts after they tried to conduct the same transaction repeatedly.
"I've attempted purchases at a food outlet with my debit card. Three attempts were made with three failed attempts initially.
"I later got three separate notifications from the MAE app station that (a certain) amount has been deducted," one user shared.
Transaction failed
Another person said he tried to top up his e-wallet with another application but the transaction failed.
"At the same time, on my MAE app, there was a notification that my money had been deducted," he said.
Malaysiakini journalists attempting to use their debit cards at retail counters or Maybank applications to transfer funds to e-wallets experienced the same problem.
Some Maybank users who checked their bank balance earlier today were also shocked to find the account had no money at all.
However, this issue has been resolved.
In 2020, Maybank said there are 10 million registered users on Maybank2u while its MAE e-wallet has 1.8 million users.
