Matrimonial Claim Set For Full Syariah Trial Over Jj S Rm2 1b Estate

The Kuala Lumpur Syariah Court is set to hear an RM2.1 billion matrimonial claim over the estate of the late minister Jamaluddin Jarjis.
Syariah judge Abdul Shukor Abd Hamid today was informed by counsel for the deceased's mother Aminah Abdullah, as well as Jamaluddin's widow and her four children, that parties failed to settle over the dispute involving the estate of the former Umno MP.
Jamaluddin died in a helicopter crash in April 2015.
Among the properties are houses in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and the United States - as part of the estate. The estate also includes shares owned by the late minister and those purportedly given to her grandchildren.
For today's proceedings, the plaintiff is Jamaluddin's widow Kalsom Ismail, 66, while the defendants are Aminah, 89, and the widow's four children.
When met by the media after Syariah proceedings, Aminah's counsel Nur Hidayah A Bakar confirmed what had transpired.
"The court has set Oct 9 for case management," the syarie lawyer said, adding that the case management is for the setting of full trial dates.
Previously, the media reported that the six disputants, including the four children Ikwan Hafiz, Nur Anis, Nurul Alyaa, and Noor Adilla, have engaged in mediation talks to try to resolve the matter.
Suit amendment
Kalsom filed the matrimonial property claim, which included 20 properties in Malaysia, Makkah, and several companies in October 2018 against her four children and mother-in-law.
On Aug 28 last year, the same court allowed an application by Kalsom to amend her suit, involving real estate in Boston, Massachusetts, to be removed from the statement of claim.
Apart from that, the amendment also concerned shares in the Rantai Wawasan Sdn Bhd, the issue of indirect contributions related to the care of Jamaludin when he was suffering from leg pain and issues related to land in Selangor.
Jamaluddin, who used to be Malaysia's ambassador to the US, was killed on April 4, 2015, after the helicopter he was travelling in from Pekan, Pahang, en route to Kuala Lumpur, crashed at Kampung Sungai Pening in Semenyih, Selangor, at 4.55pm.
The crash also killed the pilot, Clifford William Fournier, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s private secretary Azlin Alias, businessperson Tan Huat Seang, Jamaludin’s personal aide Razakan Seran, and a woman known as Aidana Baizieva. - Mkini
