Masjid India Muslim Ipoh Distribute Bubur Lambuk To Frontliners
The Masjid India Muslim in Ipoh popular for its special mutton bubur lambuk (a type of rice porridge) which is distributed to the public during Ramadan has changed its tradition this year by cooking the dish specially for frontliners
Chairman of the mosque committee Shaik Mujibur Rahman Mohd Yusoff said three cooks have been assigned to cook two large pots of bubur lambuk using a recipe which is more than 100 years old from India
He said more than 45 ingredients are used, including specially mixed spices, to prepare about 300 containers of the porridge which are distributed every day
“Because this year’s Ramadan is within the movement control order (MCO) period, we are distributing to the frontliners who are working hard to curb the spread of Covid-19 and enforce the MCO in Ipoh
“We begin cooking as early as 9am and by 3pm, we start to send the bubur lambuk to the police stations, to those on duty on the roads, and to health workers in hospitals and government clinics, as well as to police staff who come here to get it,” he told Bernama today
Shaik Mujibur Rahman said last year, the mosque committee prepared eight large pots of bubur lambuk which was distributed to about 1,000 people every day
“There have been requests (from the public) for the bubur lambuk but we cannot do it as we have to observe the standard operating procedure set by the Health Ministry. "However, if there are new instructions from the government which allow us to distribute the bubur lambuk to the public, we will do it,” he said
