GRS secretary-general Masidi Manjun said seat negotiations had not even been finalised, which meant that there was no such thing as the ruling state coalition offering 23 seats to PH.
“In fact, GRS wants to contest 55 of the 73 seats that will be up for grabs and allocate the rest (18) to PH.
“I believe that (23 seats) is what PH is trying to ask for,” the state minister told FMT.
Masidi also brushed off Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku’s (STAR) contention that PH should only be allowed to defend the seven state seats it currently holds, saying: “In a genuine partnership, one should treat their partner as a friend.”
Earlier today, STAR information chief Anuar Ghani claimed GRS offered to allocate PH 23 seats, which he described as excessive and contrary to the sentiments of Sabahans.
Anuar was seeking to justify STAR’s departure from GRS, after the party maintained that it should go solo in the state election rather than see GRS continue its pact with PH.
Following the departure of STAR, GRS now holds 35 of the 73 elected seats in the Sabah legislative assembly, with chief minister Hajiji Noor’s Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah commanding the lion’s share with 26 seats.
This is followed by Parti Bersatu Sabah (seven), Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (one) and one assemblyman who sits as a direct GRS member.
PH’s seven seats comprise four held by DAP, followed by PKR (two) and Upko (one). - FMT
