Sabah Pkr Says Harapan Will Settle For 23 Seats Or Less Grs May Offer 18
Emphasising the need for political stability and to prevent internal conflict, Sabah PKR said it would be sufficient if Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) allocated 23 seats to Pakatan Harapan in the upcoming state election.
However, GRS secretary-general Masidi Manjun said the coalition intends to contest 55 of the 73 seats up for grabs, leaving Harapan with just 18.
Sabah PKR chief Mustapha Sakmud indicated that Harapan remains flexible about the numbers.
“What’s important is that we want to safeguard the country’s political stability. We don’t want to see any cracks forming among component parties in the context of Sabah.
“So, that’s why we’re proposing only 20 (state assembly seats)… a maximum of 23, but possibly fewer after discussions. For us, that’s already sufficient,” Mustapha (above) was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
He added that Harapan’s goal is to form a stable state government that can work closely with the federal administration.
Talks not yet finalised
Masidi told Free Malaysia Today yesterday that negotiations have yet to be finalised, and therefore, there was no question of GRS offering 23 seats to Harapan.

GRS sec-gen Masidi Manjun“I believe that (23 seats) is what Harapan is trying to ask for,” he said.
Masidi was responding to Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) information chief Anuar Ghani’s claim that GRS had offered to allocate 23 seats to Harapan - a move he described as excessive and contrary to the sentiments of Sabahans.
Anuar’s statement came as Star sought to justify its decision to exit GRS, insisting the party should contest independently in the state election rather than see GRS maintain its alliance with Harapan.
Star’s departure follows a corruption scandal implicating its president, Jeffrey Kitingan, over alleged bribery linked to mineral exploration licences.
More than a dozen GRS politicians, including Masidi, have also been accused of accepting bribes by businessperson Albert Tei. - Mkini
