The document, shared by a Twitter account called Edisi Khas, sets out alleged “backdated” payments to certain Mara officers without the knowledge of the top management of Mara Corporation Sdn Bhd, Mara’s investment holding company.
Mara chairman Azizah Mohd Dun denied claims of mismanagement, and said investigations had been initiated into Mara Corporation to review the related documents and to ensure the company was managed properly.
“All of Mara’s subsidiary companies are regulated under the Companies Act 2016 and Mara has always made integrity an organisational priority,” she said. “Mara will never compromise or protect any individual if wrongdoings have been committed,” she said.
Mara Corporation came under the spotlight today after images of a letter, allegedly from executive director Suhaili Abdul Rahman to Azizah, were posted online.
The letter highlighted alleged wrongdoings of five Mara officers, who were named in the 17-page letter which was said to have been written at her request for an integrity enquiry into Mara officers who had been “loaned” to Mara Corporation in a cross fertilisation programme.
The letter contained a list of “backdated” payments that they allegedly received. According to the letter, Suhaili said that the backdated payments were done without his knowledge or that of the board of directors.
“The payments were done by Mara officers and approvals were done only at their level,” the letter said. “This means there are no ‘checks and balances’ in the company’s management and finances in Mara Corporation.” - FMT
