Macc Probes Mara After Leaks Implicate Execs In Financial Misconduct

The MACC is launching a probe into Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) after leaks implicated executives in alleged financial misconduct.
Among the misconduct alleged was the executives raising their allowances without approval, making double claims, and misusing company property such as cars.
The allegations were raised in a document dated Jan 30 that was published by whistleblower Twitter account Edisi Siasat yesterday
The document is allegedly a letter from Mara chief executive officer Suhaili Abdul Rahman to the agency's chairperson Azizah Mohd Dun (above), who had ordered an internal probe into the five.
The letter included attachments detailing the internal probe's findings, with the Mara CEO claiming that the top leadership were in the dark about the alleged misconduct when it happened.
Azizah sought to downplay the matter when the leaks caught public attention.
Looking into the matter
"Following the spread of internal documents of a Mara subsidiary on social media regarding integrity issues of several Mara officers, Mara wishes to deny any abuse of power or mismanagement in the issue," she said in a statement yesterday.
However, she assured that Mara was looking into the matter and that if there was any misconduct, the agency would not compromise against those involved.
Meanwhile, in a statement today, the MACC said it had received a report in the matter and will begin investigations on Monday, starting with interviewing witnesses at Mara Corp.
The probe is being conducted under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act regarding abuse of position by a public officer to obtain graft. - Mkini
