Credit Card Abuse Claims All Made Up Says Mara Corp Boss

Suhaili Abdul Rahman says he is aware of a claim that he used his credit card to buy a Louis Vuitton bag worth hundreds of thousands of ringgit. (Facebook pic)KUALA LUMPUR: Mara Corporation executive director Suhaili Abdul Rahman has rejected claims that he misused the company’s corporate credit card.
Responding to allegations of abuse of power, Suhaili said: “These Mara boys made it all up. I didn’t use the credit card for nightclubs or karaoke. None. The expenses were all for business.”
Suhaili said he was aware of a claim that he had used the card to buy a Louis Vuitton bag worth hundreds of thousands of ringgit, to which he said: “Show me the proof. Show me the bill. There is none. The credit card spending limit is only RM50,000.”
His denial comes after reports were lodged against him by Mara officials being investigated over allegations of abuse of power.
Suhaili, a member of Bersatu’s Supreme Council, is the party’s Labuan division chairman.
He told FMT that all his credit card transactions were made for business purposes, not for self-interest. He said that as an executive director of Mara Corporation, in charge of 12 sister companies, he was responsible for meeting business clients.
“We are involved in business. There’s no rule, for instance, that says I can only treat three people for meals. If the group of clients comprises five people, I have to pay for all of them. Why bring up the usage of the credit card when it’s a privilege given to me?”
Suhaili also said that he had sought advice from the chief finance officer before spending.
“So, what’s the issue here? If it’s true that I exceeded my spending limit, just deduct from my salary. I am here (with Mara Corporation) as a full-time officer.”
Recently, Twitter account Edisi Khas leaked a letter allegedly written by Suhaili to Mara chairman Azizah Mohd Dun accusing five Mara senior officials of abusing their power. The five denied the allegations levelled against them and lodged separate police reports on the matter yesterday.
Earlier today, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission carried out a raid on offices at the Mara headquarters here in its investigation into five senior officials. - FMT
