Many Mps Yet To Do Medical Check Ups Says Speaker
KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has reminded MPs to take care of their health and keep their email inboxes organised to ensure smoother parliamentary work.
He said many lawmakers have yet to undergo their annual medical check-up despite repeated reminders from Parliament.
"I’ve looked at the list from Parliament, and it’s quite worrying. Many have still not done their medical check-up," he said during the sitting on Thursday (Oct 30), adding that MPs have until Nov 7 to submit their health reports.
Johari reminded MPs to either make an appointment with Parliament’s health officers or carry out their medical examination elsewhere, as long as the report is submitted to Parliament for record purposes.
"This is to ensure we have proper health records. In case anything happens to any of our honourable members, we’ll have their medical information on file," he added.
On another matter, Johari also urged MPs to update or clear their email inboxes after learning that many written replies from ministries could not be delivered.
"My officers told me that many MPs’ inboxes are full, so when we send written replies, they bounce back. Once that happens, things become peaceful because the emails don’t go through.
"So please, update your email accounts so all written replies can be sent efficiently," he said.
The mandatory health screening was announced on Sept 12, 2023, following concerns about MPs' health after the death of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who passed away post-surgery for a brain haemorrhage on July 23. Earlier, on Feb 20, Gerik MP Fathul Huzir Ayob experienced breathing difficulties during a debate session. - Star
