Malaysia Airlines Slammed For Failing To Make Top 20 In International Survey

Malaysia Airlines was ranked 36th in this year’s World’s Top 100 Airlines survey.PETALING JAYA: The National Union of Flight Attendants (Nufam) today called on the Malaysia Airlines management to step down following news that the national carrier had failed to reach the top 20 in the World’s Top 100 Airlines survey for five years now
Calling it an embarrassment, the union said it proved that something was not right with the airline’s service
“What’s going on here with Malaysia Airlines
“There is a serious need to look into why the national carrier, which previously won many awards, has lost its touch and title,” it said in a statement
It was responding to this year’s findings by Skytrax, which conducts annual airline customer satisfaction surveys
This year, Malaysia Airlines claimed 36th spot, two down from its ranking last year. In 2017, it was ranked 31st
In 2016, it claimed 34th spot while in 2015, it occupied 24th place
It last made the top 20 in 2014 (18th) and 2013 (14th)
In contrast, Singapore Airlines was the runner-up this year after claiming top spot in 2018
Nufam said the Malaysia Airlines management should step aside for a new team to take over if it is incapable of reviving its image
It also urged Putrajaya to review the carrier’s board of management
It said it was shameful that Malaysia Airlines could not make the top 10 after the billions of ringgit channelled to turn it around
In the past, it said, the national carrier had won seven consecutive awards for Best Cabin Crew
“Today, we see nothing of these awards from the new management,” it said, adding that Malaysia Airlines is not a low-cost airline
“Malaysia Airlines claims to have spent billions to upgrade its planes and service, so it is terrible to see such survey results.”In July last year, Nufam urged the Pakatan Harapan government to review all issues concerning Malaysia Airlines including claims of wastage, leakage and mismanagement over the past few years. - FMT
