Malacca Rep Proves Flags Hung Correctly Can Still End Up Inverted

A Malacca assemblyperson has given video proof that even flags hung correctly can still end up upside down if the wind blows in the right direction.
This was amid refusal to display the Jalur Gemilang by some who feared being targeted if their flag somehow gets inverted, an event which some critics claimed was impossible.
In the video shared by Duyong assemblyperson Noor Helmy Abdul Halem on Facebook, CCTV footage from Texas Instruments' factory in Malacca showed a Jalur Gemilang hung right-side up being dislodged by strong wind before flipping upside-down.
He also shared a photo of a different flag that was partially dislodged from a pole and then became inverted.
Helmy's post yesterday was in response to a viral photo of an upside-down flag at the factory.
Flag hysteria
There has been hysteria against improperly displayed Jalur Gemilang after two incidents in which the national flag was displayed upside down.

Akmal and others have used race-baiting language in their criticisms, as both incidents involved Chinese.
In response, non-Malays on social media have begun saying that they would not be hanging up Jalur Gemilang this year for fear of being targeted for mistakes, accidents, or even sabotage.
Critics dismissed such concerns, saying this could not happen if the flag was put up the right way from the outset.
Helmy's more methodical approach - conducting an investigation before jumping to conclusions - was lauded by DAP leaders.
Pakatan Harapan and DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong said that the Duyong assemblyperson had exemplified mature politics with his actions.
Likewise, Malacca assembly deputy speaker Kerk Chee Yee lauded Helmy, and said that Akmal should learn from his example.
