Malacca Polls Umno Respects Pas Move To Choose Pn Logo
Umno does not appear slighted by PAS’ decision to choose the Perikatan Nasional logo for the Malacca state election.
In a comment to The Star, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said the party respected the move.
“If that is what PAS has decided, we in Umno respect it,” he was quoted as saying.
Mohamad is also the party’s election director for the upcoming Nov 20 polls.
According to the article, he said Umno’s Muafakat Nasional pact with PAS remained intact despite the latter’s decision for Malacca.
Umno was initially hopeful that PAS would abandon Perikatan Nasional (PN) in favour of an election pact with it.
The BN lynchpin has made clear its stance against working with PN’s Bersatu.
Despite siding with PN this time around, a senior PAS leader yesterday proposed a way for the Islamist party to work with both Umno and Bersatu.
Umno won’t cut ties
Malacca Umno deputy chairperson Mohamad Ali Mohamad similarly said that Umno will not cut ties with PAS over the move.
“Umno will not sever its ties with PAS.
“We may not know why it decided to take that move but we believe all members of PAS were also hoping to find a good meeting point between PAS and Umno in ensuring the wellbeing of Muslims, especially Malays in the country,” he was quoted as saying by government-owned newswire Bernama.
Mohamad Ali is also a senator and Dewan Negara deputy president.
Nomination day is next Monday (Nov 8). - Mkini
