Zambry Abd Kadir said MAHB has not received any proposal to redevelop Subang airport.PETALING JAYA: Any proposal on the redevelopment of Subang airport, will first be referred to Malaysia Airports, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has assured the airport operator.
In a statement, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) chairman Zambry Abd Kadir said Muhyiddin gave the assurance after a briefing on the proposed redevelopment of the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.
Zambry said MAHB has not received any proposal to redevelop the airport, be it from the government or the private sector, despite numerous reports on the matter.
It was previously reported that construction and development company WCT Holdings Bhd, controlled by tycoon Desmond Lim, had submitted a proposal to operate the airport under a lease, with the government continuing to own the land and the airport.
The transport ministry has said that any proposal to redevelop the airport was still preliminary and that “any final consideration and decision rests with the Cabinet”.
Zambry said Muhyiddin was briefed on the current status of the Subang airport and MAHB’s regeneration plan.
The RM1.3 billion plan is aimed at turning Malaysia into a leading aerospace hub in the Asia-Pacific region and is estimated to generate RM5 billion in economic output.
“The prime minister took note of Malaysia Airport’s role in the aviation sector and relevant industries.
“As such, we have confidence in the prime minister’s commitment in ensuring the Subang airport will remain a strategic national security asset.” - FMT
