Macc Officer To Face Charges Over Alleged Rm25m Theft
The main suspect in an alleged theft of RM25 million from MACC evidence safe is expected to be charged in court over the case tomorrow.
According to a media invitation by MACC, the anti-graft body has received consent to press charges against the officer at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur.
"Thus, you are invited to send over a journalist and photographer to cover the news on this case," said the invitation sent to a media Whatsapp group earlier today.
Checks with sources in MACC confirmed that the case to be brought to the court tomorrow involves the missing RM25 million incident.
However, they were tightlipped on the specifics of the charges against the suspect.
Last September, MACC had arrested three of its officers after former Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO) director-general Hasanah Abdul Hamid lodged a report that a large sum of cash - which the commission seized when investigating her in 2018 - had gone missing.
Malaysiakini learnt that the three suspects were part of a special investigation unit that handled Hasanah's case.
According to the sources, the suspect to be charged is one of those detained then and had been identified as the case's main suspect.
The suspect had also come under police investigation over alleged drug trafficking and offences related to the Firearm Act.
In a report in September, this news portal had also revealed that the main suspect was described by sources as “problematic” but well-connected within the anti-graft commission. - Mkini
