Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan has been wanted by the MACC in connection with the investigation into alleged misappropriation of a foreign worker biometrics project since 2023. — Picture courtesy of Datuk Baljit Singh SidhuKUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today confirmed it sent a request to the Immigration Department to cancel the international passport of businessman Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The letter, issued by the MACC’s Senior Investigation Director, was reportedly emailed to the Immigration Director-General’s office yesterday morning, ahead of a media statement by MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki.
The MACC’s Strategic Communications Division confirmed to Malay news agency BH Online that the request had been received by the Immigration Department.
“We have already emailed the request letter and are confident it was received yesterday,” the division was quoted as saying.
BH Online reported that the MACC declined further comment when asked about the Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban’s statement that the department had not received the request.
Zakaria was yesterday reported saying that any application to cancel an individual’s passport must be submitted directly to Immigration, instead of through the Home Ministry.
Azam previously said the MACC had applied for Muhammad Adlan’s passport to be cancelled after efforts to trace him directly.
“We took action yesterday and hope the Home Ministry agrees to the request to have his passport revoked. He is believed to be in a country where we have no extradition treaty, but we are trying to negotiate with that country on how to bring him back,” he was quoted telling a press conference in Petaling Jaya.
Azam added that Muhammad Adlan is believed to be in West Asia but did not name the country.
Muhammad Adlan and lawyer Mansoor Saat, 70, have been wanted in connection with the investigation into alleged misappropriation of a foreign worker biometrics project. 
Both had left Malaysia in May 2023, and in October 2023, the then Inspector-General of Police confirmed that a Red Notice for both individuals had been submitted to Interpol. - FMT
