Losing Faith In Shafee S Legal Team Kadir Jasin Asks Najib
(Focus Malaysia) – With former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak planning to appoint a Queen’s Counsel (WC) to file an appeal at the Federal Court over his graft trial, a former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) opined that the former is losing faith with his present defence team.
“After 64 years of Independence and grooming over 20,000 local lawyers, someone in Malaysia still thinks a UK lawyer is much better.
“But I can’t really blame Najib too. He has to do what it takes as his present defence team led by Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah failed miserably at the High Court and Court of Appeal,” A Kadir Jasin said, in a Facebook post.
Yesterday, The New Straits Times reported that Najib is planning to apply to get a QC to represent him for the appeal against his conviction involving SRC International funds at the Federal Court.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Ashrof Adrin Kamarul said that Shafee will be filing an application to the Federal Court by today to inform them of his intention.
“The court has fixed Jan 28 for next case management to determine the next step for the appeal.
“Meanwhile, the court also fixed March 15 and 16 to hear Najib’s appeal to adduce new additional evidence,” Ashrof was reported as saying.
On that note, Kadir said that since the Federal Court is the last place for an appeal, it was not surprising for Najib to get jittery over his defence team’s capability after two straight loses.
“But QC’s are experts of certain fields of law and only allowed to work in our courts on an ad hoc basis, upon permission from our courts,” he remarked.
