Long Queues But No One Is Complaining

KUALA LUMPUR: There were long queues at Selangor’s Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat (JER) 2.0 programme at Taman Nirwana in Ampang.
But it was worth the wait as consumers got to buy chickens and eggs at subsidised prices.
Despite being limited to one chicken and a tray of eggs, Bernama found that consumers were happy to line up for the items which were sold at RM10 each.
Apart from standard chicken and grade B eggs, other items available at subsidised prices were imported frozen beef (RM10), Indian mackerel (RM6 per pack), 5kg bottled cooking oil (RM25) and 5kg rice at RM10.
Jabariah Hussin, 66, said she was grateful the programme was held at a time when people were grappling with the rising cost of living.
“If we go to any supermarket, these six items can cost more than RM100 and that is why I will make sure to come to events like this because I can save a lot,” she told Bernama yesterday.
Jackson Liu, 27, hoped the programme would be held more often to help reduce the cost of living.
Meanwhile, Selangor infrastructure, public amenities, agriculture modernisation, and agro-based industry committee chairman Izham Hashim said the state had allocated RM20mil for the JER 2.0 sales programme which will be held at 1,200 locations compared with 711 locations last year.
“The programme received an overwhelming response with about two million residents having benefited from it,” he said.
The JER initiative started last September and was held in nine districts.
It offered a 30% reduction in prices for six basic food items. - Star
