Attoney-General Tommy Thomas is citing Lokman Nor Adam for allegedly threatening a witness in the on-going 1MDB trial.PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal has fixed March 5 to hear Lokman Nor Adam’s appeal to set aside an order allowing Attorney-General Tommy Thomas to cite the former Umno Supreme Council member for contempt of court
Court deputy registrar Laila Lateh fixed the date after a case management this afternoon
Deputy public prosecutor Jasmee Hameeza Jaafar represented Thomas while lawyer Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohammed appeared for Lokman
Earlier, judge Yaacob Md Sam, who chaired a three-member panel, sent the matter for case management
The bench was slated to hear a stay application by Lokman to stop High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah from hearing a full argument as to why he (Lokman) should be punished for showing disrespect to the court
Sequerah had fixed the hearing for March 13
Lokman’s lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah suggested that the court fix an early hearing date for the appeal instead of hearing the stay application
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar agreed with Shafee’s proposal
It is learned that both parties want the appeal heard as Sequerah has already provided his written judgment
On Jan 14, Sequerah dismissed Lokman’s application to set aside leave obtained by Thomas to cite him for contempt over alleged intimidation of a witness in Najib Razak’s 1MDB corruption trial
On Oct 22, Sequerah allowed Thomas to initiate committal proceedings against Lokman for allegedly threatening witness Amhari Efendi Nazaruddin in the on-going 1MDB trial
The prosecution submitted that Lokman’s comments about Amhari were not only tantamount to threatening the witness or other potential witnesses, but also an act of undermining the administration of justice
Lokman lodged a police report challenging Amhari’s credibility as a witness following the latter’s admission on the witness stand that he had received a US$200,000 loan from fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low
The prosecution said Lokman also gave a video interview where he allegedly attacked the integrity of the attorney-general. - FMT
