In his speech at DAP's 18th National Congress here today, the party's secretary-general Anthony Loke said this was part of Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) manifesto in the last general election and must be fulfilled. —NSTP/FAIZ ANUARSHAH ALAM: DAP wants the government to amend the Federal Constitution within 24 months to limit the Prime Minister's tenure to 10 years.
In his speech at DAP's 18th National Congress here today, the party's secretary-general Anthony Loke said this was part of Pakatan Harapan's (PH) manifesto in the last general election and must be fulfilled.
He added that DAP would continue to support and propose Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister if the political bloc returned to form the government after the next general election.
"We are not asking Anwar to step down, but this amendment will be his legacy in bringing reforms to our administration.
"We also want to stress that DAP is committed to supporting Anwar as Prime Minister after the 16th General Election, even there is any new political configuration.
"We will continue to uphold our stance that the representative of PH for the Prime Minister position will be Anwar, with no second candidate besides him," Loke said in his policy speech at the congress.
Present were Anwar, who is also PH chairman; Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) president Datuk Ewon Benedick.
Loke said DAP also hopes for a constitutional amendment to ensure the separation of the Attorney-General's and Public Prosecutor's roles.
"This is an ongoing effort being implemented by the government.
"This week, (Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri) Azalina (Othman Said) is on a working visit to the United Kingdom to study how it is implemented there," he said. - NST
