(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Bersatu’s Radzi Jidin has dismissed the list of potential prime minister candidates for Perikatan Nasional (PN) given by a fellow opposition leader, calling it his personal opinion
Radzi, a Bersatu vice-president, said PN’s candidate for prime minister would be decided by the coalition’s Supreme Council.
“The Supreme Council has the final say. Until it announces a candidate, any suggestion remains a personal opinion,” he told reporters after attending a dialogue here last night.
He added that an announcement would be made “when the time comes”.
PN Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden had named five coalition leaders as potential prime minister candidates for the 16th general election, with Hamzah Zainudin the sole nominee from Bersatu.
Hamzah is the Bersatu deputy president.
Afnan also listed PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, and vice-presidents Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and Idris Ahmad.
Bersatu Youth committee member Na’im Brundage meanwhile refuted descriptions of PN as a coalition of racist parties, saying it included the likes of Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party.
“PN is not made up solely of Bumiputera parties,” he said.
“And if you look at Bersatu’s track record and that of PAS, we are not extreme as we are made out to be.”
He said PN would be welcoming non-Malay parties into its fold in the near future, but declined to identify them. - FMT
