Letter On Segama Lawmaker S Resignation Surfaces But Unlikely To Have Effect
A letter signed by Segama lawmaker Mohammadin Ketapi intended as an instrument to resign from public office has surfaced.
The letter showed that it has been received by the Sabah Legislative Assembly speaker's office at 11.25am today. The letter itself suggested it was signed on Oct 30.
When contacted, Warisan secretary-general Loretto Padua confirmed that he had instructed party lawyers to submit the letter to the speaker's office.
Mohammadin told Malaysiakini that he did not sign the letter when the document was shown to him.
Asked if he had pre-signed the letter, Mohammadin said: “Perhaps. I did not sign any document to resign as a state lawmaker on Oct 30.”
Mohammadin had quit Warisan two days ago and now supports the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government. Prior to this, Sindumin assemblyperson Yusof Yacob quit Warisan in early October while Sebatik’s Hassan A Gani Pg Amir did the same in March.
Similar resignation letters for both Yusof and Hassan A Gani were submitted to the speaker’s office by Warisan. However, they were both rejected by the speaker's office.
On Oct 25, Speaker Kadzim M Yahya said in a statement that Yusof had signed statutory declarations disavowing all agreements made with Warisan.

On March 3, Kadzim gave a similar explanation for rejecting Hassan A Gani's letter.
During the state assembly election in September 2020, Warisan won 23 seats. It is now down to 19. Apart from losing the Segama, Sindumin and Sebatik state seats, Warisan also lost the Bugaya seat after the incumbent Manis Muka Mohd Darah passed away in November last year.
It is understood that all Warisan candidates signed undated resignation letters as a condition to be Warisan candidates for the September 2020 election.
The signing ceremony was held at the Sabah Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu and the ceremony was recorded on video, with each candidate reciting a pledge to resign as a lawmaker if they were to defect. - Mkini
