Lasimbang Opposing Carbon Deal Just To Revive Political Career Says Star Veep
STAR vice-president Kenny Chua (left) has questioned Adrian Lasimbang on what he had achieved in his short-lived career as a senator from Sabah.KOTA KINABALU: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) vice-president Kenny Chua has taken a swipe at former senator Adrian Lasimbang for criticising the Nature Conservation Agreement (NCA).
He said Lasimbang was now portraying himself as an opponent of the carbon credit agreement to revive his short-lived political career.
Chua said Lasimbang’s criticism of the carbon deal showed he lacked a clear picture of the actual purpose of the agreement.
“He is using the NCA to revive his political career, now that he is with an NGO after a few years with DAP.
“What did he achieve throughout his short-lived career as a senator?” he asked in a statement yesterday.
Chua said Lasimbang had never spoken with deputy chief minister Jeffrey Kitingan about the agreement.
“He appeared out of nowhere and started to attack (Kitingan),” he said.
On Feb 5, Lasimbang welcomed Kitingan’s intention to sue him for his comments on the NCA to the Al Jazeera news network.
Kitingan said he considered the Feb 2 international news network’s report on the carbon deal as being defamatory.
He said the report was “distorted and irresponsible”, based entirely on what a “whistleblower” had told the news network.
Kitingan said Al Jazeera should have double-checked the facts with the government, which had endorsed the NCA.
He said he was also considering legal action against Al Jazeera and others “actively disseminating false information to the public, particularly those that are defaming me”. - FMT
