Lady Renounces Malaysian Citizenship In Video Gets Bashed By Nationalist Netizens
WILL we Malaysians ever find ourselves in the unfortunate situation to renounce our citizenship? Hopefully not. However, for one lady it was an eventful yet optimistic occasion as shared by netizen Siditious in a video post on X.
Sedih rasanya bila lihat video begini. Kerakyatan Malaysia adalah sesuatu yang sangat berharga. pic.twitter.com/Fj9oOr8kpr

Apparently the process involved a visit to the High Commision Of Malaysia.
She added that a couple of forms had to be filled, which became a stumbling block since those were written in the Malay language.
Surprisingly, she had completely forgotten the language, resorting to google translate to get the job done.
Sadly, the video post also became a hot spot for racist comments directed towards the Chinese race.
Netizen K wondered where she had been living all these years since she mentioned in the video that she had completely forgotten her Malay.
“It’s normal for humans to migrate in the past, seeking better places for future generations. Her ancestors migrated to Malaya due to famine on the mainland. She may find better opportunities in another country. Just pray for her. No need to be jealous or racist,” said skylar, a voice of moderation among the many racist comments.
Thiru Selvam pointed out that it was her right to renounce her citizenship. “I don’t know why some people are triggered by her action,” he said.
CikPuan_CTzen shared that the act of renouncing one’s citizenship will not make a person stateless.
“Before renouncing, the government of Malaysia will ask if the individual has been offered a citizenship from another country. It means you must pass the application for another citizenship before your current citizenship can be revoked,” she said.
No further information could be derived from the brief video, such as her current whereabouts or new citizenship.
But one thing is certain. She is going to miss all the good food we take for granted as a Malaysian.
Regardless, we do feel that it is inappropriate for people to bash her for renouncing her citizenship.
Perhaps there may be a good reason behind it. After all, the lady made no negative remarks about our beloved country. Let’s save those condemnation salvos for those who truly deserved it. —Focus Malaysia
